This drawing belongs to a group of twenty designs, each on simillar white paper without chainlines, and featuring compositions suitable for a chimneypiece or an ornate ceiling of carved plaster and even mirrorwork, wholly typical of fashionable interiors throughout Qajar Iran. The set originally formed one single paper scroll, but were cut down before they came to the museum in 1877. The paper scroll was a traditional format for recording architectural designs."
